Happy Birthday, Betty White! On January 17, this iconic television legend is set to celebrate another year of life with a cozy gathering surrounded by loved ones. According to a close friend, Betty plans to keep things intimate and fun, just the way she likes it. “She still enjoys a good drink, a hearty laugh, and some great storytelling,” the friend exclusively shared with Closer Weekly. This issue is currently available on newsstands. The celebration will take place at her home, where she'll be joined by longtime friends and her stepchildren. “It’s all about quality time together. They’ll order in some delicious food, sit back, and enjoy each other’s company,” the friend added.
Still Going Strong at Nearly 98
It’s hard to believe Betty White began her television career all the way back in the late 1940s. Yet, here she is, nearly 98 years young, still thriving with remarkable energy and charm. While she may experience the usual aches and pains that come with age, her overall health remains impressive. “She doesn’t have any major health issues,” her friend revealed. “Sure, she says she feels a little ‘creaky,’ and walking can be a bit challenging, so she uses a walker at home. But she’s doing great overall.” What truly sets Betty apart, though, is her sharp wit and quick sense of humor. “She’s still got those one-liners down pat,” the friend laughed.
Betty’s approach to aging involves being selective about leaving the house. “She gets plenty of job offers, but that part of her life is probably behind her now,” the friend admitted. Despite slowing down professionally, Betty insists on staying put in her beloved Brentwood home in Los Angeles, where she once lived with her late husband, Allen Ludden. “People keep telling her to retire to her place in Carmel, California, but Hollywood is her home. She loves being close to the action, even at her age. It’s in her blood,” the friend explained.

Embracing Life with Grace
Betty’s perspective on aging is nothing short of inspiring. “Getting older is better than the alternative!” she quips with her trademark humor. While she’s grateful for her long life, she does miss Allen and the many friends she’s lost over the years, including co-stars Mary Tyler Moore and Valerie Harper. “She says, ‘Every day my world gets smaller,’” her friend shared. “So many people she cared about deeply are no longer here. But she’s hopeful that one day they’ll all be reunited. She’s not afraid of it, and she doesn’t dwell on it either.”
A Day in Betty’s Life
Betty continues to wake up early, usually around 6 a.m., eager to start her day. She loves diving into a crossword puzzle or reading a few chapters of whatever novel happens to be on her nightstand. As an avid reader, she devours several books each month. “She also enjoys watching the news, movies, and anything involving animals,” her friend noted. Betty’s passion for animal welfare remains as strong as ever. “She stays active with the Los Angeles Zoo and other animal charities. She may not attend as many events as she’d like, but she does everything she can to support them. She gives generously, saying it nourishes her soul,” the friend added.
Her secret to staying youthful? Staying engaged and passionate about life. “Everyone should find something they’re truly passionate about. Don’t be afraid to dive headfirst into it,” Betty once told Today. “Your mental attitude makes all the difference. Too many people dread getting older, but there’s so much to enjoy if you make the most of it.”
