After more than five decades of thrilling audiences worldwide, legendary singer-songwriter Kris Kristofferson has decided to hang up his touring boots. At 84 years old, Kris has quietly retired to his longtime home on the breathtaking island of Maui, Hawaii. This decision wasn’t just a whim; it was carefully thought out amidst the ongoing challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic.

Life After the Spotlight: A New Chapter for Kris Kristofferson

Kris' manager, Tamara Saviano, exclusively shared with Closer Weekly that the music icon's health is in good shape. “His health is good,” Tamara reassured. The decision to step away from the limelight wasn’t spurred by any health concerns but rather by the global health crisis. “He’s enjoying time with his family,” Tamara added, painting a picture of a man who has found peace and contentment in the simpler things in life.

Community Spirit in Maui: Kris Kristofferson's Impact

For Kris and his wife, Lisa Meyers, retirement doesn’t mean retreating into isolation. The couple, who have called Hana, on Maui’s east end, home for many years, are deeply embedded in their community. Hana School Principal Rick Paul speaks highly of their contributions, saying, “They are wonderful go-to people.” Their generosity knows no bounds; they’ve donated computers to the high school and have been instrumental in various fundraisers, writing checks to support educational needs. Kris Kristofferson's Musical Presence in Maui

While Kris might have stepped away from the grand stages of the world, his love for music hasn’t faded. He still enjoys performing, often surprising locals and tourists alike with unannounced shows alongside fellow island musicians. Local journalist Tad Bartimus recalls an amusing incident where a tourist was left in awe, staring at Kris for ten minutes before dismissing the possibility, saying, “Naw, that’s not him. What would he be doing out here in this wilderness?”

In 2014, Kris faced a health scare when he was initially diagnosed with dementia. However, it was later discovered that he was actually battling Lyme disease. Since then, his health has shown improvement, although memory lapses still occur. Despite this, Kris remains grateful for his ability to remember the songs that have defined his illustrious career.

“Thankfully I haven’t lost the songs,” Kris expresses with heartfelt gratitude. Beyond music, he finds immense joy in the simple pleasures of life, like taking long walks with Lisa and tending to his vast lawn on his trusty tractor. “I got a lot of lawn to mow!” he jokes. “I want to stay right where I am, which is on an island with no neighbors and 180 degrees of empty horizon. It’s a beautiful view.”
